  1. INTERCEPT AN ATTACK ON LEIPZIG
  2.  
  3. On August 16, 1944, the 359th FG
  4. escorted three boxes of B-17s to
  5. Leipzig.  While flying at 27,000 feet,
  6. the bombers were intercepted by Me 163s
  7. of 1./JG 400.  The Mustang escorts were
  8. mostly out of position to intercept the
  9. lead Komet, but the pilot of this
  10. aircraft overshot his intended target. 
  11. Slowing down after his first pass, the
  12. German pilot unwittingly put himself
  13. into prime firing position for the
  14. P-51s. Two Me 163s were shot down on
  15. this occasion, while others were
  16. engaged by the American fighters
  17. without loss to either side.

  19.                     YOUR MISSION
  20.  
  21. You are the leader of a flight of five
  22. Me 163s based at Brandis airfield. 
  23. Your squadron has been ordered to
  24. intercept a formation of B-17s headed
  25. for Leipzig.  Head west and climb to
  26. 33,000 feet, making a turn to the south
  27. upon reaching altitude.  Glide to the
  28. vectored intercept point and make 
  29. either a head-on or a stern attack on
  30. the bombers.  Your rocket fighters are
  31. armed with SG 500 rockets.  A pair of 
  32. FW 190s is flying top cover for you as 
  33. you take off.
